New Britain’s Got Talent judge Michael McIntyre has insisted he doesn’t want to be known as ‘Mr Nasty’, saying: “Ruthlessness is not something that comes easily.” The comic’s comments come after we reported yesterday how he made a 9-year-old upset and caused another performer to storm off during the auditions.

Today however, Michael told The Mirror: “When you watch the show, and hopefully enjoy it, you will see that I’m not a Mr Nasty by any means.

“I’ve had such a wonderful month at the auditions and I have been teased quite a lot for being too nice to people, because I know what they are going through. It’s been a very intense month, but the best I’ve had in my career, because it’s been so much fun.”

Talking about yesterday’s incident – which saw the telly star find himself in an awkward position after he buzzed 9-year-old David Knight before the schoolboy had even started his routine – McIntyre explained: “I don’t like upsetting people. It was an odd moment.

“It was a joke and I jumped up to sort it out and I sorted it out. I apologised and I put him through because he was very good and showed promise.

“I am not being ruthless and shattering people’s dreams – that’s the opposite of what I want to do.”

He added: “I took the job because I love the show and I have spent a month trying to make people’s dreams come true. Ruthlessness is not something that comes easily.

“I am talking to you because I don’t want to wait three months for people to see that on screen.”
